MAK EVENTS
Throughout the year, the MAK neighborhood hosts several events:
April
The annual Easter Egg Hunt and Social was held in Lib Kennedy’s back yard on Adams St. for many years. Since 2014, the new owners of 214 Adams Street, the Batra family, have continued this tradition. Children and adults enjoy the thrill of the hunt and afterwards there is usually lemonade, cookies and the opportunity to visit with neighbors.
May - October
The popular MAK porch parties are a neighborhood favorite! Neighbors offer their front or back porches for a casual neighborhood get-together once a month from May through October. This is a way for neighbors to keep in touch. The parties are usually held on Sunday evenings 4 – 7 PM. but home owners can choose any day or time that they want to host.
July
The 4th of July Block Party always has a large turnout. Approximately 80 – 100 neighbors turn out for our extravaganza of a party held at the top of Kings Highway under the big shady oak. The MAK Neighborhood Association provides BBQ and drinks; neighbors contribute side dishes.
October
To kick off Halloween, MAK Neighborhood Association provides pizza and lemonade, usually in the Davis St/Kings Hwy dead end (weather permitting). It is the perfect way to catch up with neighbors and preview costumes before trick-or-treating ensues.
December
The annual holiday party is adult-only and usually takes place in December. We are always looking for a host to genoursly offer their home, and the MAK Neighborhood Association provides a ham, while neighbors contribute sides or desserts.
For the younger kids, we do a night of holiday singing, cookies, and hot chocolate. Host homes pick the day and time, it usually takes place early or mid December.
